This 1970 Pontiac GTO has undergone a comprehensive restoration, highlighted by a conversion from the factory TH400 automatic to a close-ratio Tremec TKX 5-speed manual. The swap includes a hydraulic clutch system with a pedal-mounted master cylinder, all sourced from our friends at @americanpowertrain. To complement the new transmission, we replaced the 3.21 rear gear with 4.11s from @motivegear, paired with a new Dura Grip LSD unit from @yukongearandaxle. A custom harness was built with the correct connectors for the reverse lamp and neutral safety switches. We also modified a factory 4-speed console, added a Lokar boot, and finished it off with a factory-style trim ring. The results are outstanding. The car not only drives better but is far more cruise-friendly. With the TH400 and 3.21 gears, it turned about 3,500 rpm at 65 mph. After the swap, the 400 now runs just over 2,400 rpm at 70 mph—all while delivering a noticeable increase in low-end torque. The ’70 GTO is finished, headed home, and ready to be enjoyed
